Connecticut Childcare Provider Courses Resuming in July

Connecticut licensed childcare providers need to meet requirements in place by the Office of Early Childhood for CPR, Pediatric First Aid, and Medication Administration. Historically, Code One has provided these courses on a regular schedule for childcare providers and through a partnership for providers with children enrolled in the Thrive CT program.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, Code One and the United Way (who oversees Thrive CT program delivery) made the difficult decision to temporarily discontinue these in-person courses in March. During this time, Code One has been working diligently to develop a virtual instructor-led program that meets the requirements of OEC. Through an approved petition with the American Heart Association, Code One has begun scheduling Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED, Medication Administration, and Epinephrine Refresher courses starting in July.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED will be conducted as a hybrid course with a six hour virtual instructor-led class provided in Code One’s virtual classroom. Participants join and participate in the live course through Google Meet. Upon completion, they schedule an individual contactless skill appointment to complete the hands-on component of the course.

The Medication Administration and Epinephrine Refresher courses are being held in the virtual classroom as well, however, Code One will ship training materials to participants so that they are able to perform their skills from the comfort of their homes.

Plans are in the works to also reinstate training for Thrive participating childcare providers starting in late summer or early fall. Stay safe and stay tuned!
